Simple tips to stay on track with your health goals this holiday season

Ready or not, the holiday season is upon us! 🎃🍁🦃🎄🕎

Halloween’s over, and if you’re like me, there’s a mountain of candy in your pantry to prove it! We always buy too much, even though fewer trick-or-treaters come by each year. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you feel “off track” with your nutrition or exercise—whether it’s now or anytime during the holiday season—you’re not alone.

Here’s a secret: It’s not as complicated as your brain might make it seem. And guess what? You don’t need to “eat clean” or “perfectly” to feel your best. (Side note: I really dislike the term “clean eating”—food isn’t dirty unless it’s straight from the ground! 😉)

Consider the what, why, when and how to get “unstuck” and into ACTION so you can feel your best!⤵️

1.     What do you want to do?

Get specific about the change you want to make.

For example, do you want to eat more regularly throughout the day instead of skipping meals and overeating at night? Do you want to eat more protein and fiber to nix the between meal snacking? Do you want to dial down the alcohol so you can sleep better at night?

Be clear about your goal.

2.     Why do you want to do it?

List all the reasons why this goal matters to you. The more reasons, the better! They’ll help you follow through when obstacles pop up and when your brain comes up with a million excuses.

3.     When & how will you do it?

Plan exactly when and how you’ll make it happen.

Having a plan in place helps you avoid spur-of-the-moment choices that can throw you off track.

For example:

  • Hungry after the evening sports scramble? Have a healthy late afternoon snack instead of attacking a bag of chips when you walk in the door.

  • Forgot your lunch and want to avoid hitting the vending machine? Keep a quick, healthy backup meal at work.

  • Missed your gym workout two days in a row? Have a plan B for home exercises.

Take action & practice!

Once your plan is set, it’s time to take action.

Don’t expect to be perfect— lean in to the practice. Adjust as needed and keep going.

The more you practice, the easier it is to maintain progress, even when life gets busy.

Trust the process, and remember that small, consistent actions are the key to feeling your best!
